BREATHE2BE MINDFULNESS WORKSHOP

BREATHE2BE MINDFULNESS WORKSHOP

Learn how to take a daily holiday from stress and feel a sense of fulfilment and joy in your life.

In this two hour workshop, Sally Wambold, our Hälsa Wellbeing Mindfulness Coach and Counsellor, will provide an introduction to Mindfulness and teach some simple meditations and exercises that you can use in every-day life to reduce stress.

Mindfulness blends ancient ways of developing wellbeing with modern convenience and lifestyle. It is being widely used in the NHS because it has been clinically proven to improve our wellbeing.

Mindfulness teaches us to:
• Be in the present moment rather than worry about the future or dwell in something in the past we can’t change.
• See a thought for what it is – just a thought and not necessarily reality.
• Be kind and accepting of ourselves.

The workshop will be held at Hälsa Wellbeing Clinic in June. The fee is £15 per person and Hälsa clients are offered a £5 discount. Please contact us to note your interest and we will then confirm available workshops with dates and times.

Meditation

MEDITATION GROUPS – WITH HÄLSA WELLBEING
“All that we are is the result of all that we have thought”. Buddha.

WHAT IS MEDITATION?
Meditation is an extremely valuable tool to bring into your life. It is a state of consciousness – when the mind becomes free of scattered thoughts and patterns. As an individual you will learn to go deep within yourself to focus the mind and eliminate outside influences to produce a wonderful state of deep peace and relaxation.

HOW WILL IT HELP ME?
Meditation will enhance your life in many ways. So many of us struggle with a “busy mind” and find it hard to switch off and find peace from the “chatter”. It will enable you to understand yourself more, appreciate and notice the beauty of your surroundings and have a deeper appreciation for the people around you.

There are many benefits to regular meditation – just some of them are:
1. Reduced levels of stress and anxiety
2. It can help to reduce physical pain and boost the immune system
3. Lowering of blood pressure and increased blood flow to the brain
4. Encourages deep relaxation and feelings of inner peace
5. Helps focus the mind and promotes deep sleep

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM A GROUP?
Our meditation groups are relaxed and informal and the aim is to help people to achieve some peace and relaxation. There is no right or wrong – we all work together to achieve what we need for ourselves. We focus on guided meditations, which are visual guided journeys to aid with relaxation. A typical session will include the following:
• Introduction and creating a space to work within – this involves cleansing the space in which we will work
• Breathing exercise
• A short relaxation meditation
Break
• Main meditation
• Discussion and feedback
• Final grounding meditation

We work with yoga mats and cushions on the floor but we also have chairs available for those who prefer to sit. The sessions are about making you as comfortable as possible and enabling you to find a space to quieten your mind in a way that works for you.

We look forward to welcoming you at one of our groups.

Organisational Wellbeing

Hälsa – Workplace Wellbeing recently gave a talk to CIPD Members about “Wellbeing in the current climate” focusing on areas that HR Professionals could think about when looking at workplace wellbeing initiatives and stress reduction programmes.

With the need for businesses to become more competitive in a challenging market, the wellbeing of the people in any organisation is becoming more important. The reality however, is that businesses are continually under pressure to do more with less, employees are taking on more and more all the time and stress at work is at an all time high.

The talk focused on:

• Effective wellbeing strategies
• How to focus on wellbeing when budgets are under pressure
• How to link employee benefits/rewards to health and wellbeing
• Stress management in the workplace

Two of the companies that Hälsa work with were cited as good examples for workplace wellbeing. Premier Farnell for overall excellent wellbeing provision and a mix of employer and employee funded initiatives. Shipley College for providing staff with excellent Staff Welfare weeks and days. The College have managed to focus on wellbeing in a really cost effective manner.

Reflexology in the Workplace by Kathy Wood – Therapist with Hälsa – Workplace Wellbeing

Reflexology is becoming more and more popular in the workplace as Companies are becoming increasingly aware of the effect of stress on their employees. A high percentage of illness can be traced back to stress and from a work perspective the effects of this can include:

-Substantially reduced efficiency and accuracy of work produced
-Reduced performance in physical tasks
-Negative effect on planning, decision making and creativity
-Tiredness & irritability
-Weakening of the immune system and the development of physical illness

Some countries, notably Denmark, have been addressing these problems for many years, incorporating various holistic therapies including Reflexology into their staff wellbeing programmes.

I believe it’s time we took a leaf out of their book!

I currently hold a monthly clinic in a large organisation in Leeds. This comes at no cost to the Employer, they simply allow their staff the time and a suitable room in which to receive the treatment and the staff pay for their own sessions. The feedback I have had is extremely positive both from the employee’s personal point of view with relief from medical conditions and general stress levels being improved but also from the point of view of appreciating the fact that their employer values them enough to offer this service.

Regular Reflexology treatments not only help to reduce stress and tension, but they may also speed up the recovery from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions.

Benefits of offering this service to your employees may include:

- Increased morale, satisfaction and loyalty
– Enhanced concentration, efficiency and accuracy
– Improved creativity, planning and decision making
– Better relationships amongst staff and between staff and management
– The ability of staff to cope more effectively under pressure
– Speedy recovery and return to work following illness, accident or surgery
– Pain relief for stress-related conditions such as headaches/migraines
– Enhanced staff resilience and resistance to infection and disease

If you are an Employee and feel that your Employer would be interested in hearing about this service, please pass my details on to the HR department or whoever is responsible for staff wellbeing. If you are an Employer who is interested in offering this type of service to your staff, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Staff Wellbeing in the current climate

Wellbeing in the workplace is probably something that all employers would like to give more focus to, but cost implications, time and other priorities tend to hold them back. With the need for businesses to become more competitive in a challenging market, the wellbeing of the people in any organisation is becoming more important. The reality however, is that businesses are continually under pressure to do more with less, employees are taking on more and more all the time and stress at work is at an all time high. Wellbeing provision is still more of a nice to have than an essential and organisations often lack the basic infrastructure to help alleviate work-related stress and associated issues.

We can help you to focus on wellbeing with budgets are under pressure with:

 On-site Massage
 Private Healthcare Cash Plans
 Wellbeing Events
 Stress Management Workshops

What impact will our services have on your bottom line?

If we support you to keep your staff health and motivated it will mean that they take less time off work and therefore save you money. If you look after your staff in a preventative way, it can help you directly cut the cost of absenteeism and re-recruitment.

In 2010/11 around 26.4 million working days were lost in the UK. Of these days, 22.1 million due to work-related illness and 4.4 million due to workplace injuries. Stress, depression or anxiety and musculoskeletal disorders accounted for the majority of days lost due to work-related ill health, 10.8 and 7.6 million days respectively.

It only takes a small reduction in sickness, absenteeism and/or attrition to make any of our services one the most cost-effective solutions for any organisation. When staff feel valued and invigorated this has a direct, positive effect on productivity and overall morale.

Recruitment Costs

If you staff are absent from work for a significant length of time or cannot return to work due to long term stress or other associated problems – the costs of re-recruitment are significant. For an employee on a salary of £20k, the re-recruitment costs are a minimum of £10,000, which does not include any other costs associated with the absent employee.

The costs are significant – and a small amount of spend on wellbeing will go a long way to prevent high levels of absenteeism.

Hälsa fully understands the importance of maintaining staff wellbeing. We work with you to create cost-effective wellbeing solutions and arrange everything to deliver this.

We take the stress out of wellbeing and help you keep your Company healthy, in people and in profits.
